Laminate Countertops In NJ, NY & PA

Thin layers of plastic glued to compacted paper or wood
Laminate countertops have been used in homes since the 1950s and are the most affordable countertop material on the market today. Originally created as a furniture making process, these countertops are made by gluing thin plastic sheets to a base that is made up of either particle board or kraft paper. Companies that made laminate sheets have increased their designs over the last decade or so, now offering similar looks to granite, marble, and quartz surfaces.

Popular Yet Affordable

While inexpensive, there are many considerations that must be considered before purchasing a laminate countertop. The glue used to combine the plastic to the substrate often deteriorates over time. Depending on where this happens, it could be a simple fix or require a whole replacement. Laminate countertops are thicker than other countertop materials, so if you remove the laminate countertop with the intention of keeping your existing backsplash, there will be a small gap between the new countertop and the tile on the wall that will need to be addressed. Laminate countertops are not heat-resistant, have visible seams, and repairs will be noticeable. Another major consideration is that laminate countertops can only have drop-in sinks. An undermount sink would expose the particle board or kraft paper, making this type of sink unusable with laminate countertops.
